MEG-alert protects only TWO kinds of motors:
- Critical motors - the ones that cause BIG problems when they stop!
- Problem motors - the ones that have a history of short life or continual problems.
Keeping motors running is what keeps revenue flowing! MEG-alert is a valuable resource in increasing operational efficiency.
Here's how:
MEG-alert Motor Guard continuously and automatically monitors the condition of the electrical resistance within the motor windings. Electrical failure of the insulation within motors is the number one cause of burnouts. Therefore, IF you know the status of the motor you can take it offline before it burns out. Conversely, if you have no idea about the condition of the motor you are only guessing when - not IF - the motor will fail.
MEG-alert Motor Guard gives an accurate test measurement of the meg-ohm resistance of each motor. A "pre-alarm" indicates the insulation resistance is below 10 meg-ohms (generally less than 10% of the original value of a new motor.) This is the time to schedule maintenance, which may include motor reconditioning.

Scheduling maintenance can be done on YOUR timing - versus emergency repairs which never happen at a good time! A new motor can be inserted into the production line, or a backup brought online in a planned and controlled manner. Worker productivity need not be affected, and worker safety need not be compromised when scheduled maintenance replaces breakdowns.
In the worst case scenario all preventive and predictive maintenance is ignored. Even in these situations, MEG-alert can prevent downtime.
Here's how:
MEG-alert Motor Guard includes a motor lockout feature. Motor Guard is connected to the starter circuitry of the motor (or generator.) When (again, not IF) the motor reaches the point where the insulation resistance falls to the level that starting the motor would cause a certain failure, the Motor Guard will lockout the starter. Motor Guard will interrupt the starting circuit, absolutely preventing the motor or generator from starting - whether directly by plant staff or remotely if connected to a secondary switch.
MEG-alert Motor Guard is designed with presets that match the IEEE standards for motors. Typically, when meg-ohm resistance falls below 1.5 meg-ohms the motor is in immediate danger of failure at startup. In this instance, Motor Guard will display the meg-ohm readings in the red scale on the meter, a flashing red alarm LED will warn staff, and the lockout feature will interrupt the starter.
Even if you totally neglect preventive maintenance, MEG-alert Motor Guard will STILL protect your critical motors - automatically and continuously!
