Motor Guard models:
Model GP 500: This Motor Guard is designed for any motor up to 600 Volts AC - regardless of horsepower rating.
The GP500 is an automatic Single motor insulation resistance tester. Input voltage is 120/240 VAC, 50/60 Hz. Testing voltage is 500 VDC. The GP500 includes a "Test On" green LED and a red "Alarm" LED. There is a lockout contact for connection to the motor starter circuit. Also included is a reset feature to clear the alarm fault. Standard installation is via a din rail mount.
GP 500 Motor Guard, $450.00 each (shipping extra 3 lbs)
Model GP500-PS: This Motor Guard includes the same features as the GP500 above, plus a 2% meg-ohm meter to be installed in the door of the motor control cabinet.

The GP500-PS shown above can also be installed with an optional Remote LED panel (GP8010) that would be installed on the door of the MCC. Note: the 2% meg-ohm meter IS included with the GP500-PS and not with the GP500 base model. ![]()
GP500-MU 2%: Automatic Single motor insulation resistance tester. Input voltage 120/240 VAC, 50/60 Hz. Testing voltage is 500 VDC. This model includes a "pre-alarm" mode which activates the yellow, flashing LED when the meg-ohm reading falls below 10 meg-ohms. As is the case with the GP500, the MU also triggers the red LED when the resistance falls into the danger zone. A 2% meg-ohm meter is included (an optional 1% meter is available as an added cost upgrade.)
Additional features of the GP500-MU are a manual reset and a test/calibration feature. This allows adjustment of the alarm levels to be modified or customized in the field for specific applications. The GP500-MU also includes additional output terminals for connections to external warning lights, alarms, AND remote monitoring transformers.
Options include a remote faceplate with a "Test On, Pre-alarm, and Alarm" LED's.
GP 500 MU 2% Motor Guard, $900.00 each (shipping extra 5 lbs.)
GP500 "Multi Guard": Motor Guard "Multi's" are available to protect from four to nine motors per single installation. The Multi Guard contains the circuitry of the GP500-MU for EACH motor - but in a compact, single unit. The main advantage is ease of installation.

The unit pictured above is configured for the protection of nine motors. The Multi Guard operates by testing each motor in order in 30-second intervals. Since MEG-alert tests each motor when it is offline, the Multi Guard skips any motor that is operating at the time of the test.
As the Multi Guard cycles through the attached motors, the "Test" light will flash and the corresponding LED will indicate which motor is being tested. The digital readout will also indicate the motor number. The meg-ohm meter will display the actual test reading for that motor. The Multi Guard will then proceed automatically to the next offline motor, bypassing any motors that are in operation.
If the Multi Guard indicates a fault, it will be displayed by a steady red LED identifying the problem motor. At the same time, the lockout function will interrupt the starter circuit of ONLY that motor.
The display panel includes a switch to allow automatic testing of all motors, or a manual override to test each motor individually.

The GP500 Multi Guard includes the 1% meg-ohm panel meter displayed. The unit is normally installed in the existing motor control cabinet. The optional utility box (as shown above) is available as an extra cost option.
Other Motor Guard models are available for:
- DC motors, 750 VDC and below.
- Single AC motors, up to 2300 VAC.
- Single AC motors, 4160V to 7200 VAC.

Please call for specs and prices on any of the Motor Guard models.
GEN Guard models:
GP500-G: This model GEN Guard employs similar circuitry to the Motor Guard GP 500 MU. The GP500-G is an automatic, single generator protection system. Input voltage is 120/240 VAC, 50/60 Hz. Testing voltage is 500 VDC. Included are manual test/calibrate features, manual reset, alarm and lockout contacts, a 2% meg-ohm panel meter, pre-alarm and alarm circuits.
Note: the GP500-G above is displayed with the optional LED panel that can be located remote from the unit.
GEN Guard Multi models (not pictured): MEG-alert also manufactures systems to protect multiple generators. The "Multi" units can be specified to protect up to four generators in a single installation. The "Multi" contains the circuitry of the GP500-G above for EACH generator. Call for a quote on your unique requirements.
GEN Guard GP500-WG: To address the unique requirements of wind generators, MEG-alert has added the GP500-WG. This system is similar in operation to the GP500 Motor Guard. It is a "go/no go" tester with a switch that locksout the starting circuit of the generator if the insulation resistance is at a dangerously low reading.
Like the corresponding Motor Guard, the GEN Guard 500-WG is equipped with a manual reset circuit. For most wind generator applications, this is set to automatically reset when meg-ohm resistance climbs above the alrm level preset.
Note: the GP500-WG above is displayed with an optional 2% meg-ohm panel meter and a remote LED panel. Call for current pricing on GEN Guard models and options.
Important note for generator applications: GEN Guard tests for faults in the generator windings. A grounded generator will produce a false reading. Therefore, if the generator is a four wire grounded or high resistive grounded system it will be necessary to ALSO install a "ground interrupter". Please consult MEG-Alert Technical Support for the correct size interrupter (requires the generator voltage rating and the maximum neutral to ground amperage rating.)
